An insider has reconfirmed that the development of a Persona 3 remake is underway
A previously reliable leaker has reconfirmed that Atlus is indeed working on a remake of Persona 3. The future of the Persona franchise has been unclear since the release of Persona 5 Royal in 2019, but with the successful release of the game on multiple platforms in 2022, it seems that Atlus is ready to move on to its next major project. While some speculate that this could be Persona 6, others believe it could be another opportunity to revisit Persona 3.
Persona 3 is considered by many to be the starting point for the current success of the Persona franchise. The original release of the game on PlayStation 2 was not as popular as the first two Persona games, but its remakes, Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable, helped to boost its popularity and build a larger western audience for the franchise. This success has led to the release of more games in the series, including Persona 4, Persona 5, and various spin-offs.
Atlus announced on New Year’s Day that it has big plans for 2023, which will begin with the release of remastered versions of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden on modern platforms. The company also mentioned that it is working on several new, as-yet-unnamed titles, but provided no further details. This announcement has sparked speculation and discussion among fans of the Persona franchise.
On the ResetEra forum, fans have been speculating about what Persona-related announcements Atlus may have in store for 2023. One user mentioned a longstanding rumor about a Persona 3 remake and asked if the project was still in development, considering that Atlus is re-releasing Persona 3 Portable. A user known as lolilolailo, who previously leaked information about Persona coming to Xbox Game Pass in 2022, replied that the Persona 3 remake “is real” and still in development.
In response to a question about why Atlus would re-release Persona 3 Portable if a remake was in development explained that it is simply how Atlus operates. They stated that releasing an updated version of Persona 3 Portable on new consoles will allow the company to capitalize on the original game and then on the remake, which is expected to have improved graphics and quality-of-life features similar to Persona 5, at a later date. It is worth noting that did not confirm that the Persona 3 remake is one of Atlus’ planned announcements for 2023, and it is possible that the remake if it exists, will be released much later. Without official confirmation from Atlus, fans will have to wait to see what the company has planned for the popular RPG franchise.
Atlus announced that Persona 3 Portable will be released on January 19 for PC, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
