What’s driving the excitement around Dead Space?
The first Dead Space is a solid game, and it has only grown in appreciation over time. It borrowed elements from Resident Evil 4’s deliberate third-person shooter and horror elements, but its science fiction setting and unique mythology allowed for the introduction of new concepts such as zero-gravity sequences and a unique take on space-based religion.
Like Resident Evil, later installments of Dead Space strayed away from the core formula and focused on excessive action, diluting the horror experience. However, this Dead Space remake appears to be a return to its roots, much like the successful Resident Evil remakes. It is hoped that the remake will be more enjoyable than the recent Dead Space spiritual successor, The Callisto Protocol. The original developer, Visceral Games, no longer exists, but Motive Studios is taking on the project. Motive’s work on the new Star Wars Battlefront reboot demonstrates that they have the ability to create beautiful and immersive science fiction game worlds.
