Dell’s Latest Budget Gaming Laptops Are Surprisingly Exciting

Dell’s G series budget gaming laptops are powered by the latest chips from Intel, AMD, and Nvidia, making them a top choice for budget-conscious gamers.

Typically, entry-level gaming laptops are not very aesthetically pleasing or user-friendly. However, Dell’s G series has been a standout in the industry over the past few years, as they have closely resembled lower-end Alienware laptops, which are known for their premium quality. At the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Dell unveiled new designs for the G series that give the laptops a unique look and feel. These redesigns have generated a lot of excitement among gamers and industry professionals alike.

The new G15 and G16 gaming laptops from Dell feature bold, angular designs with two-tone exteriors. The G15 is available in two screen sizes: a 15.6-inch display with either a 120Hz refresh rate and 250-nit brightness or a 165Hz display with sRGB 100% color coverage and 300-nit brightness. The G16, on the other hand, features a 16-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2,560×1,600. It is available with either a 165Hz (100% sRGB) display panel or an optional 240Hz (100% DCI-P3) display.

The G15 and G16 gaming laptops from Dell will be available with a variety of Intel 13th-generation Core processors, ranging up to the i9-13900HX. They will also be offered with AMD processors. In terms of memory and storage, the laptops can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of PCIe NVMe solid-state storage. The laptops will be equipped with next-generation Nvidia RTX graphics, although it has not yet been announced which specific graphics chips will be included in each model. These laptops also offer the option to upgrade memory and SSDs on your own.

In addition to their powerful processors and graphics chips, the G15 and G16 gaming laptops from Dell also feature an improved cooling system. The laptops use a vapor chamber and thermal interface, similar to those found in higher-end Alienware gaming laptops, to keep the system running smoothly and efficiently. This ensures that the laptops can handle demanding tasks without overheating or experiencing performance issues.

One of the main differences between the G15 and G16 models is the screen size, but there are also some subtle differences in terms of connectivity, ports, and keyboard backlighting. The G16 offers the option of a Cherry MX mechanical keyboard, which may be appealing to some gamers. Both laptops offer wired and wireless connectivity options, as well as a range of ports. In terms of keyboard backlighting, the G16 offers more options than the G15.

The Dell G series of gaming laptops has consistently been a top choice among gamers and reviewers, and the new designs only enhance their appeal. These laptops are not just good options because of their price point, but rather they are highly desirable in their own right and not just cheaper versions of Alienware models. They offer a unique and exciting experience for gamers and are definitely worth considering as a purchase.

The new Dell G15 and G16 gaming laptops are expected to be released in the spring of this year, with the G15 starting at around $849 and the G16 starting at around $1,499. These prices are for the US market, and it is not yet known when the laptops will be available or at what prices in the UK or Australia. However, based on current exchange rates, the G15 is expected to be priced at approximately £705 or AU$1,250 in the UK and Australia, respectively.
